    223 ai

So I've been wanting a ai rifle for a few years now. Just wanting to know if there's a reason not to build one in 223ai. Fire forming is not a issue for me.

It is a decent round, gets you a bit more velocity and longer case life.
I have a 257 Roberts AI and I love it!!

223 Ackley puts you one step closer to a 22-250. 150-200fps gain over the standard. Longer case life like Wes said. Cheap brass and cool factor really weigh in too.

From everything I’ve read about the .223ai I don’t see any down sides. I plan to rebarrel my sporter-weight Savage .223 to something a bit heavier in the next few years and been leaning heavily on going the Ackley improved route. I think it’s the ticket!!!

Got a buddy that has one. Older Bushmaster with 20" bbl.
He can get 3900fps from a 40gr NosBalTip. Super accurate also.

Interesting SAWMAN! I often wonder how well this straight-cased, sharp-shoulder round would run through an AR! Cool!

That's pretty impressive numbers. I ended up ordering a barrel for my savage. It's a 26" 1:7.5 twist. I'm hoping to get 2900-3000 fps with 80gr bullets.

No surpressors with a 223AI. Too dirty. Chamber does have to be kept somewhat clean. Personally,I would not build one for shooting prairie dogs.
I do not know what you could get out of the heavier bullets. My buddy did try a 60gr Nos Part but tore thru the yotes. The 40's explode inside . . . never exit. --- SAWMAN

Why is the 223ai too dirty? I’ve never noticed one rifle round being dirtier than any of the others. I’ve seen where different powders make a difference.

    The surpressor.
The AI is the same as the 223/5.56. Some powders are dirtier than others.
However,to me,dirty just means less efficient. Not a complete burn + carbon residue. All this is amplified by using a surpressor. --- SAWMAN
