    Looking for caliber suggestions

Recently lost my grandfather and received some inheritance that I am wanting to buy a couple guns as keepsakes that will be passed on to my sons from my Granny and Papaw. I know it will be a revolver and a wooden stock rifle more than likely lever action and I will reload and probably cast for them. Will only be target shooting occasionally so ammo is not major concern. Have thought about 45 Colt, 44 mag, 30 carb but definitely looking for something different.

I knew when I started thinking of getting suggestions this was the go to place. Thanks in advance

    Looking for caliber suggestions

What are your thoughts on an all weather Henry in 45-70?

My mind immediately said a lever action rifle and single action revolver in .44 magnum. Maybe a Henry and a Ruger Super Blackhawk

I agree except I'd go with 45lc. That's just me though. Nothing wrong with a 44mag I'm just a 45 nut. However the idea of a lever and a revolver in the same caliber is a good one. You won't have to have 2 of everything. Your dies, brass, bullets and powder will all be the same. If your lucky like I am with my 2 my rifle shoots the exact same load as my pistol very accurately. Having 1 load for 2 guns is very nice. Just start with loading for the pistol and see how the rifle does. I have a Ruger blackhawk and a Marlin cowboy edition.

Also a good choice. I've looked at those as well. Very nice.

By the way. I'm sorry for your loss. I lost my grandfather in 1996. I still miss him.

That’s what I was thinking in the 45 LC or 44M. I had thought about 45-70 but really liked the idea of both being the same.

It is really handy. When i deer hunt in the woods i use my 45lc rifle and pistol. No need for a high power rifle in the woods. I put a set of williams peep sights on my marlin. I've honestly killed more deer with that rifle than any other gun I own.
