There's no such cartridge as the 45 long colt

In every Lyman Reloading manual, every Hornady Reloading Manual and in the One Book, One Caliber Reloading Manual, they state that the 45 long colt does not exist, it's a mistaken name, erroneously used.
Does anyone call the 45 Auto Rim a 45 short colt OR call the 454 Casull and the 460 S&W a 45 longer colt?
Can we reverse this trend of fake information?

I agree. When it came out in 1873 it was simply a .45 Colt. If you look at the barrels on a Anaconda or a S&W 25-5 it says .45 COLT not Long Colt.

Yes sir, you are correct. My Ruger Redhawk and my S&W 25-5 both say 45 Colt as do my reloading dies plus EVERY piece of 45 Colt brass.

This is a dead horse. It's been beaten to death, burned, and the ashes eaten.

45 Long Colt is a name that the round is stuck with, even though it's not technically correct.

I get what you say. But the term 45 Long Colt has been in use for so long I think it would be next to impossible to change. Yes most know from the beginning it was called the 45 Colt. But somewhere someone stuck Long on it and it stuck. And I don't think it's going away.

Just a matter of what people want to call it.
    Doesn't bother me either way.
We all know what it is

Exactly. Everyone knows what it is, whether someone says long or not.

I guess it's okay to use other nomenclatures for all the other cartridges?
I thought reloading was a fairly precise hobby?
What's to stop some newbie from thinking that the 454 Casull is a 45 long Colt since it is longer cartridge and it is 45 caliber?
    Why further the ignorance?
