    Anyone tried zinc

I'm here in California and I'm looking for a lead alternative for planking. I have learned that you need an iron mold, and the weight deference is about 1/3 in weight. I'm looking to cast zinc groundballs for 28 gauge. Anyone worked with zinc slugs? Thanks.

I don't think you'll want to try that.
First, it's melting point is 787.15°F.
Second, it's more than 10 times as hard as lead.

From what I have read zinc bullets tend to be within 1 hardness to copper jacket bullets. I have a very good Turkey fryer that can easily get yo those levels. I would be ladle poring the zinc if anything.

I have been making Zinc ingots from Zinc wheel weights. I do not plan to cast bullets from it. Just thought I would have some on hand in case people start wanting it to cast with. Elvis Ammo has a few videos on casting it. DO NOT USE YOUR LEAD POT! Must be cast iron. It will kill you lead pot.

Well I decided to try to cast Zinc bullets. I just ordered steel molds from lyman for my 38/357 195grn bullet. Zinc is lighter than lead so I am hoping for 100-110 grain bullets. Trying to figure out what I can add to the Zinc to make it heavier. I had a thought of adding some steel shot to the mix. Not sure how that will work out.
