    223 ogive

I thought was ready to go for more accurate loads. So I bought Hornady C1550 Lock-N-Load OAL Length Gauge (Curved). And Hornady B234 Lock-N-Load Comparator Body with Set of 6 Inserts.I am reloading now for AR-15s. Took the bolt carrier group out. Put a 62gr 223 bullet in the gauge. And put in in the barrel.slowly pushed the bullet in until it stopped. Locked the gauge and pulled it out.
I have to be doing something wrong. No way could this be the right measurement. Just using the mic without the ogive gauge. The total length is 2.4444 Just the brass is 1.750 The 62gr bullet is .8015 Going by this. The bullet only sits inside the brass 0.1071"
Either I'm doing something wrong. Or the rifle is way off. And shouldn't be fire.

Every day is a good day. Some are just better than others.

I ran into the same issue. Most standard AR chambers are designed to run a wide variety of ammo. Mag length (2.250-2.260) is usually what most guys seat to. For my S&W M&P Sport 15 I seat most everything at 2.250. It was seems to give the best average accuracy. Bolt guns will have much tighter tolerances typically. I tested rounds from 2.200 up to 2.260 and didn't see a significant difference in accuracy...

A 10th of an inch in to the brass. I don't think anything could crimp it. It certainly would not fit the magazine...

Right. My advice would be to start with what the load data suggests for an OAL and and load batches at increased OAL. Might check and see if you can find the rifle manufacturers data on the chamber to make sure it's within spec.

Been using published load data for my COL. But by using ogive data from your barrel can differently increase your accuracy.
Been looking for a reason to get a new barrel. I think I just found it.

Exactly. That's why I picked up a .223 Wylde barrel from Bear Creek Arsenal. It will help for sure. Next step for chasing accuracy will be a bolt gun. I've chased the accuracy monkey long enough in my AR, it's as good as it will get in it's current configuration.

I've been told that this is not something that I should have. I'm not sure where this barrel came from. So I'm looking for a new barrel. And I could use some suggestions. Not looking for the best. Nor the cheapest. Would $300 get me a proper replacement?
