After many years of wish booking and prices getting higher instead of finding a deal I have decided to take an alternate course .
That course includes roll crimps and otherwise disregarded dies .
The plan calls for;
An unloved Lee turret press.
A special decapping rod for the Universal decapping die.
The modification of a 303 shell holder to drop and insert 209 primers .
Last I'll need a 44 Mag/ Spcl FCD.
The decapping rod is easy . I'll just turn a 1/4-28x4" bolt down to .210 and round it over a little.
The FCD becomes the base sizing die for the brass , it doesn't matter that it's platted steel it's a carbide die .
With the case up in the gutted sizer the ring/base should have enough resistance to roll crimp.
For consistency the press can be mounted on a riser and hooked to the drill press deck .
I don't plan on doing over 2-300 rounds so a $300 new press is out of the question.
Buying 303/30-40 brass or 9.3x74 isn't especially cost effective here either , I do have about 50 brass cases to start with.
So my setup cost is going to be whatever I can get in a press and the crimp tool .
