    Bullet tumbling. Literally.

A friend of mine dropped off a .223 -Winchester model 70 (I think). Looks like it was rebarrelled many years ago. No markings on it. Mauser style action.
Anyway. It used to shoot great. Now you’re lucky to hit paper at 100 yards.
I moved up to 25 yards and found the bullets are tumbling.
I tried loads with 50 grain bullets on up to 69. Same results. I even tried the ammo I loaded for this thing back in 2011.
    What is going on?

Are you sure it is chambered in 223? If so, I suspect the crown is nicked. I would take it to a gunsmith and have the crown looked at and maybe the bore scoped.

Yes. It’s .223. It used to be a tack driver. It sat in a different friend’s closet during an ugly divorce. Since it was lost in a boating accident [emoji6]
