Just a little advice on reloading for that particular rifle. Keep your CUP as low as possible. I had a marlin 1895. It recoils back like a high powered rifle and up like a shotgun. If you scope it keep that in mind. Your gonna need alot of eye relief. As far as a bullet. I never went under a 405gr. I'd try the 350's as well. Never know your rifle may love them. I prefer cast bullets but have shot a jacketed soft point. Moyers bullets is a good place for cast. His mix for the 45 70 is great. He has one for the 1863 sharps that can't shoot hard cast that works great on deer and I'd imagine hogs. Happy shooting and be safe.

    EUDE75,
Just looked through Moyers selection and was wondering about the 405gr SPGC.

I only see a WFNGC in .452 for Cast Performance. The only .458 is WLNGC also.

They’ve changed their lineup in the last few years. Maybe they’ve made the WLNGC to where they will work in everything. Might be worth it to contact them about it.

Oh, and by the way, be careful of Facebook. You do not need to trim your brass short for regular Hornady bullets. Just the flex tips.

You want a bullet with the widest meplate possible. The WFN bullets are somewhat wider (the nose;meplate) than the WLN. They cut a permanent hole that leaks alot of blood.
Take a look at Double Tap also. They might offer them. --- SAWMAN

I believe that's the one I use to use. Its been a while since I loaded for the 45 70. You can call him. He's very happy to answer any question you have.
