Nickel plated brass normally.

Solid nickel would be prohibitively expensive and probably wouldn’t perform well as a cartridge case due to it being brittle.
Brass cases are nickel plated to prevent corrosion or for the “Cool” factor. People seem to be willing to pay more for a case that is nickel plated. It give the sense that it’s a “Premium” ammo.
I have seen nickel case crack after a few reloads, where brass cases of the same brand have lasted for many many reloads. But I also have seen nickel plated brass reloaded so many times the plating wears off.
Nickel is also harder on dies. So I’m not convinced nickel is worth the extra money if you want the brass.
