    .224 62gr SS109 Steel Core Penetrators

I just purchased the .224 62gr SS109 Steel Core Penetrators

and can not find them on the Hornady site.

    Are these Hornady?

Does anyone have any load data on them?

You can use the data for a 62gr bullet. It doesn't have to be that specific bullet listed.

In the past we used 69gr load data due to the SS109's length.

I just loaded some. I looked in the Nosler manual and used the load chart for 60-62gr. I decided to try Benchmark since Nosler says it's the most accurate powder tested (plus I have it on hand). I went with 23grs. with COAL 2.260, CCI primers. If the weather permits I'll chrono them tomorrow

Just tested them. 5rd average of 2567 fps with a Standard Deviation of 46fps, holding a .519" group at 50yards. 23grs of Benchmark.
Apparently it's gonna take more to push the steel core than Nosler projectiles. Nosler manual says 23.5gr is max charge for 62gr. bullet and 23gr is max for 64gr bullet. I want around 2900 fps. I'll continue to work up the load and post results.

Caldwell G2 chrono at 12' away. 59 degrees, 86% humidity, 94' above sea level

Federal (Lake City) factory loaded xm855 has a 5rd. average of 2844.2 fps with a standard deviation of 17.4 fps according to my chrono. Holding a .925" group at 50yrds through same rifle. I would like to get close to that velocity while maintaining the half inch group... if possible

I bumped it up to 24.5grs of Benchmark. 2745.75 fps average with standard deviation of 29.84 fps. .875" group at 50 yards. I'm using mixed head stamp range brass. The group is opening up but still smaller than factory loads. I would like to try 25grs but it's pouring rain now. Still no signs of pressure issues.
