.38Spl/.357 mag shotshell loads

Looking for any and all information on loading shotshells for .38Spl/.357 mag. Do you use the speer capsules or gas checks? What is your favorite powder? I intend on using these for snakes and rodents with #12 shot.

I have only loaded them in 38Spl using Speer capsules, with 4.5g Bullseye, and #9 shot. They seem to work just like factory loads, but a little dirtier.


P.S. you have to be careful seating them as capsule breaks if you use to much force.

The Speer Shot caps are awesome, and easy to load. I have been doing it for years.
That is why I brought them in and added them to the website I needed more, and just got a bunch of extra

I opted to make them myself. Don’t have specific notes in front of me but from memory.

357 shot shells.

4.5gr 700x
2 shot cards cut from cereal box or similar weight cardboard.
90gr of shot
1 more card board disk
Wax dripped on top to level of case
Heavy crimp

I sharpened a 38 special case to cut the disks.

Very soft shooting ... fun to make.

If you need absolute recipe let me know and I’ll venture into the dungeon.

I am making up some shot shells. I have them weighing 108-109 gr (per the enclosed sheet in the shot shell package), but I do not have any of the listed powders and dont really want to buy a pound of something just for the shot shells. I was wondering if anyone has used titegroup with the shot shells. Per the speer manual and the sheet with the shot shells I should use 4.5 grains of either bullseye or 700-x. In the manual for 110 gr JHP - they list 4.2 - 4.6 gr of bullseye or 700-x and 4.1-4.5 gr of titegroup. I was thinking of trying either 4.3 or 4.4 gr of titegroup. What do y'all think?
