Oh ok. I guess I never really looked at it that way. I just started the 40 and have never really had the slivers with my 9mm.

Yep. Happens all the time and is nothing to worry about. Thicker cases tend to shave a bit, and the sharp edge on the case mouth gets broken off ever so slightly .
You can get larger slivers if you bell the case mouth a bit too much though. Made that mistake LOL.
I've had luck minimizing the shavings by deburring case mouths.
Always do whats right because it's always the right thing to do.
