Cleaning the toys on the cheap

I have taken WAY too much time away from the hobby, both on the reloading end AND on the unloading end.

And I'm out of cleaning patches. But I do have a bunch of old T-shirts that I can repurpose for the task. Is that something that some of you do? If so, how big do you cut the patches, and is there an easy way to do it?

I tried the other day and it wasn't very pretty.

    For sizes, I need .22/.224, .308, 9mm, 40S&W and 45ACP.

use old Tees all the time,as far as size I dont measure them just get one to go down the barrel snug/tight then cut more the same size,22 cal is the pain but use what ya have and gets my barrels clean so no harm no foul

Pretty is subjective if they start out black as coal and end up clean when all said and done them clean ones are pretty as all get out

I believe that you will find the cotton type t-shirts will stretch too much when used on a jag or trying to stuff thru a small hole at the end of the rod.
I just buy my cleaning patches at the local gunshows,in bulk. I buy all 458 sized patches and cut as needed.
I use t-shirts as small wiping rags only. --- SAWMAN

I think 2x2” will work for the larger calibers and closer to 1x1” for the .22 caliber. If the material is too thin/thick for a jag, then wrap the patch around a bore brush.

Typically, I use Pro-Shot jags with their patches and/or Southern Bloomer patches wrapped on a nylon bore brush. Thankfully local stores carry both brands at reasonable prices.
