I am starting to cast. Have all the goodies as of today to try it. Just going to make 148 grn 38 wad cutters. Got the 2 cavity Lee mold in today's mail. Have everything else. I will be powder coating them. I attached a file with some lead hardness information. Hope this helps some one.

I cast for about a dozen calibers. Been doing it for 34 years now. Not much lately, but am getting ready to ramp it back up.
Ron, are those dropped out of one of the Lyman Devastator(sp) molds? Good looking hollow points!!!
I've been casting four years now. If I shoot it I cast it. (except .22) as long as I stock up on powder and primers I'm GTG.
I saw a post about Midsouth selling zinc bullets and watched a youtube about casting zinc. I'm not sure about using zinc yet so I'll be tracking it.
does anybody here cast zinc?
My Avatar is a simplistic representation of a slug from my NEI custom mould. It's a 350gr .45Colt bullet
designed to duplicate the Keith bullet that I had only found in lighter weights.
I studied penetration tables until my eyes crossed, learning that 350grs at max safe velocity was the "sweet spot.
Much beyond 350gr Keith style in .45Colt and you run into COAL trouble. The 405gr LEE (beer can?) is about max for a
blunt design, too.
(Interestingly, Ruger revolvers can handle longer C.O.A.L.s than Winchester lever guns.)
Wes and I have about 3 dozen moulds and 3 lead melters. We've studied the effects of melt temp, tin addition, etc.
and decided Elmer Keith had it all figured out back in the 50s.
We quench cast just about everything we make.
Alas, we haven't made anything since starting the business.
But that's about the ONLY negative regarding the business!
I cast.... for a little bit!!! Lol a lot for shotgun And muzzleloader.
Shit happens... then you die.
I cast 30 cal gas checked bullets mostly for use in 300 Blackout but have used them to good effect in 300 Savage and plinkers in 30.06. Also cast several different bullets for 45/70. In handgun I cast for 41 Mag, 44 mag and 45 acp.
I just started casting for 9mm.20180828_122234.jpg
