My Avatar is a simplistic representation of a slug from my NEI custom mould. It's a 350gr .45Colt bullet
designed to duplicate the Keith bullet that I had only found in lighter weights.
I studied penetration tables until my eyes crossed, learning that 350grs at max safe velocity was the "sweet spot.
Much beyond 350gr Keith style in .45Colt and you run into COAL trouble. The 405gr LEE (beer can?) is about max for a
blunt design, too.
(Interestingly, Ruger revolvers can handle longer C.O.A.L.s than Winchester lever guns.)
Wes and I have about 3 dozen moulds and 3 lead melters. We've studied the effects of melt temp, tin addition, etc.
and decided Elmer Keith had it all figured out back in the 50s.
We quench cast just about everything we make.
Alas, we haven't made anything since starting the business.
But that's about the ONLY negative regarding the business!
