    Tumbling live rounds.

I know many people tumble their finished product to put that final shine on them. I want to do this myself but I do not have a vibratory tumbler, I wet tumble with a frankford aresonal rotary tumbler. I have heard people using rotary tumblers with dry media successfully but I was wondering if this could be done with live rounds. I want to tumble my finished rounds so they don't tarnish as wet tumbling strips everything. I'd really like to not have to purchase another piece of equipment.

Just don't tell my wife how much any of this really costs.

Well I gave it a shot and good news bad news. I tumbled them for an hour with walnut lizard bedding, nufinish, and some mineral spirits. Good news is nothing blew up, bad news is all the hollow points got clogged with media. I just spent the last hour and a half cleaning out media from the bullets using a pin. So the moral or the story is yes it worked but I will not be tumbling hollow points again lol. I'll post some pics below. I did do some before and after measurements and seems like nothing moved. First group phout is before and the second is after "polishing".

Been there and done that one.
I did it with 308 HP Match rounds. Never did get the stuff out of those small hollow points

I almost didn't go through the effort of removing the media but my whole point in reloading bulk hollow points was for some stockpiled SHTF defense ammo. They might as well been JHP all clogged up like that.

I figured I'd post my results good or bad so others can learn from my mistakes. I couldn't find anything in my searches here or elsewhere anyone that had done this in a rotary tumbler.

It’s much appreciated doing that. That just provides the wealth of knowledge here for everyone.

Don’t use anything except dry media. Then you’ll do good.
