    Scale question

I got a little digital scale I weighed a quarter and the scale shows 5.591grams a quarter weighs 5.670 grams would it be safe to us for measuring gunpowder.

I wouldn't. Because 1 grain of powder could be the difference between blowing up your gun or not. Best to get one made for powder.

I wouldn't rely on a quarter for calibration. Actual calibration weights would be best.

Calibrate your scale to always be sure. They sell weight kits if your scale didn't come with one.

It’s always better to use check weights that are known to calibrate a scale. A good scale and or a set of check weights is much cheaper than the visit to the ER if the gun blows up.

Toss it in the trash. You don't want incorrect powder weights. What one are you using?

Definitely trash it. Scales aren't as expensive as an ER bill, your gun or your life.

I got one of those little Frank Arsenal digital scales because they had really good reviews and most people liked them for a cheap digital scale. Right from the get go I never had good luck with it. It has no repeatability... I would weigh a 115 gr 9mm bullet and get like 114.5gr. Then pick it up; let the scale clear; and then weigh it again and get like 115.8 gr and do that over and over and get a different weight every time. I tried it with others things and could never get the same weight twice from the same item. I shelved it and got a beam scale.

I have sense bought a RCBS Chargemaster Lite and have checked a couple hundred throws from it against my beam scale and it is very good, so in my mind with Digital Scales, you either get really lucky or you get what you pay for.

I have one of those tiny scales. 'Bout the size of a cigerette pack and a little thinner.
It seems pretty accurate, but I use it for weighing bullets only.
I believe that it came from Harbour Freight. It came with a 500gr check weight. --- SAWMAN
