    Bullet guestion for 44 mag

I have a buddy that hunts with a 44 mag lever gun. It is a Ruger 77/44 if it makes any difference. He was shooting factory Hornady leverevolution FTX. It looks like the 240 XTP might be better. Mainly I am curious how the XTP performs hunting compared to the 225 FTX.

240 grain XTPs have worked fine for me on deer and hogs. Never tied the FTX in 44

Don’t overlook the XTP 180s for the 44mag my neighbor has dropped a few deer out to 200yards with a model 629 with them. I haven’t had a chance to get a deer with mine yet but the 180s shoot well in my Taurus. I understand I’m talking revolvers right now but I would presume performance would be better from a rifle

240gr XTP is hell on Coyotes. I have no clue about deer. One of the big reasons I shoot the coyotes is to protect the small deer herd living in my property. Lol.

I use a 12 inch T/C Encore pistol barrel and they usually drop in the spot. Big hole going in, bigger hole going out.

I have no experience with the ftx, but I have killed many deer and hogs with the 240gr and 300gr xtp out of my ‘94 winchester. They both performed well, but I now stick with the 300gr xtp because it has the edge on the larger hogs, and still works great on deer.

I third the comment. The 300xtp works well.

The 240xtp does very well on deer I use it in my h&r, a marlin 1894 and in a sabot in my in-line. My nephew uses a 200gr Speer hp in his 1894 and it works equally well
