The small 380's like the LCP and BodyGuard are much smaller than the small 9mm's like the XDs and Shield for example.
I got the LCP 2 for my wife. She is small and her XDs 9 prints badly on her no matter how she has tried carrying it (she has several styles of holsters for it). So it's her winter carry when she can hide it under a jacket.
The LCP is super easy for her to conceal with no printing whatsoever. It is really light too so it is hardly noticable at all in an ankle carry.
380 may have less power than a 9mm but when you are talking 3" and shorter barrels like the compact 9mm's and super compact 380's I think the gap in power narrows a tad. And at the super close distances that self defense shootings occur anymore it will still be enough to get the job done.
For me I can conceal the XDs just as easy as she can conceal the LCP so it is my summer carry. I carry a full size handgun in the winter.
