I want to do a bit of review here as I've never dealt with a squib. If I remember right, a squib is when the bullet is pushed out of the case, but doesn't clear the barrel? Usual causes are no/too little/bad powder? Often you can tell as the shot sounds different? If I'm right so far, then you'd wait a minute in case it was really a hang fire, eject the case, drop the mag, and clear the barrel with a cleaning rod? Sound right?

Yep. You gat a click, then just a light "Puff" normally. We always say "Click but no bang, Check the Bore". You have to get the bullet back out with a cleaning rod, Brass Rod, or wood dowel if in a pistol.
What the woman did wrong if you watch again, is pull the trigger, and got nothing. She ejects the shell into her hand, and chambers another round. Then BOOM!!!
She could have told by the lack of the bullet in the ejected shell there was a bullet in the bore.
