For me the little gun was a 50yd max, short, light, highly maneuverable, thick brush gun. I shot a nice sized boar hog with it in the river swamp at <10yds on several occasions .
The fiber optic sights were easy to see, although if I still had the gun they would be replaced with a rear peep and trijicon style front.
I did replace that silly hammer drop safety on top of the bolt, with a made for the gun, plug.
I absolutely loved how you could load the gun thru the end of the tube or thru the slot midway down it if you did not want to remove the tube with mag spring . . . kinda like a 22LR gun. In the years that I had it I never used the loading gate. I also liked how you could open the action and drop a round on top of the shell lifter,to single load.
Wish I still had my gun. Make sure to hold onto yours. --- SAWMAN

One respectful recommendation that I would offer is to ONLY use 454 brass . . . never 45LC.
You really do not want to screw up an load a 45LC brass to 60K psi.
I did,and came awful close to shooting it as a light, practice load. I quickly gave away my 45LC brass and simply loaded down (with TRAIL BOSS ) 454Casull brass. ---- SAWMAN

I use a 265gr wfngc with unique for a medium load with my 454 brass. It is pleasant to shoot and is also good enough to hunt with. I haven’t loaded or shot that load in years, but was very accurate and fun.

I traded for this one several years ago. Sold it to a friend and finally bought it back. I don’t plan on letting go of it this time.

I do have a ton of LC brass but as of now it’s all stored away. I don’t currently own a LC. I’m pretty meticulous about my reloading habits. But you do bring up a very valid point. That would be fairly easy to do...

My cousin had a freedom arms 454 pistol. I want a rifle. His pistol loved a 325gr cast bullet. That thing would knock a deer down like it got hit by a truck.

That’s my plan for this one. Gonna be a good brush gun. Should keep my hunger for a 45-70 at bay.... for a little while anyways lol
