Fur friendly coyote loads in 223/5.56

Gents -- A buddy of mine is looking for a good load that is fur friendly for Coyotes.
We put together a load using some 60gr v-max tips, but have not been out yet to see if they are/are not fur friendly.
Just looking for opinions & some advice on what has worked for you guys in the past.

These are going to be running out of an AR platform with a 20" barrel. Longest shot would be max 300 yards if ever that.

    Thanks in advance.

I'm currently in Eastern Montana where the coyotes are thick and the shots can get long.

I've really had good luck with Sierra 65 grain gamekings. That was out of a bolt gun, but I imagine it's work just as well from an AR. Ya always have a few that just tear things up, but most of mine that did exit were quarter sized or smaller.

Get a 40gr V-Max or better yet Z-Max shooting at about 3500 out of it. Goes in, Blows up, never comes out

Thanks guys, I'll have to check out the lighter v-max -- I don't want to get hooked on the z-max with the rest of the addicts when the supply runs dry!

Wes is right on in his above. For years in Maine I killed about 75-85 coyotes per year during my time hunting and also guiding. Most were big and primed out. Most were >35lbs but probably 1/3rd of the yotes that me or my sports killed were >45lbs depending on what time of year we hunted.
During calling or over most bait locations I used a 223Rem/24"/1:9/AR. I shot hundreds using a Sierra 52gr BTHP. Eventually I switched to a 40gr NosBalTip.
I found that if I hit bone going in there was never an exit. Even if it was just a rib, however I always tried to put it square on the shoulder.
My vote is for small and just as fast as you can move the bullet. I am not familiar with some of the newer thin jacketed "varmint" bullets of today so I cannot give first hand knowledge/info on those.
For the intended purpose I would also add . . . use the fastest twist bbl that you can. It will help to pull the bullet apart on impact.

    Yeppers.
I built a bull barrel AR in 204 specifically for this task. Very fast and does not exit. I shoot the 26 and 32 grainers in the 204. The 40 should be dandy in the 223
I have no idea what the hell I am doing.
So I just keep shooting. It all works out in the end.
