They are a great unit, just take a little time to figure out.
There are good cell phone apps out there that make it cool to use on your phone.
Just remember that they only read to 3800fps.
We can't chrono some factory 22-250 loads or reloads
I have one and I love it.
I have used it in an indoor range with others shooting. You have to adjust the sensitivity of the mic (the sounds of the shot triggers the radar) but it worked great. I could do load development and shooting and not even worry about lighting, weather, other shooters ect.
I've used it with various suppressed rifles and it's work great, again you have to adjust the sensitivity of the mic but it will pick up just fine and tracks the bullets out to 50 to 100 yards.
I've worked with larger Doppler Radar setups that track projectiles out to 500-1000+ yards and found that the Lab Radar works very similar to them. I shoot 45, 308, 338, 9mm and 22. It will track the 45 out to 100 yards, it will track the 308 to 75-100 about 80% of the time but within 75-50 yards it will give back readings about 100% of the time.
The 22 cal projectiles track to 50-75 yards 80% of the time, but within 50 yards it will pick them up 100% of the time.
It works with pistols, rifles and shotguns. It doesn't do all the things a fancy $100k Doppler Radar does but for the hobby guy it is just fine. If you are a curious about ballistics you can use the information it generates on the SD card to calculate a 100 yard B.C. values and see how that compares to what's on the box. There's a lot that goes into the B.C. value on the box so you may find there's some difference between what you see and what's on the box. If you're a nerd like me, you'll enjoy it.
You do need to be sure to aim the radar in the same direction as your target. With that said you can shoot normally and collect the data passively. One question that you can answer is "Did I shoot low or what that the ammo?" well consult the Radar and it will tell you if that shot was a little low in velocity.
I apologize if this sounds like a sales ad. Here's the trouble with it. It does eat batteries. For a long day of shooting you'll have to change out the batteries at least once. I have found that a USB charger for a phone will power it as well.
I have a conventional chrony as well, it collects dust now but it worked fine. I was always afraid of putting a hole through it. I have not tried the magnospeed, but I have heard it works well.
