Does the price you posted include optics and any other accessories such as a bipod, bags, muzzle device, etc?
If it does then look into a Savage scoped package. The Savage floating bolt head makes a hard to beat accurate rifle from the factory. If that budget doesn't include scope and accessories you will be hard to get a semi custom high quality rifle for under $800. The best of both worlds might be the Savage 110 desert tactical plus a decent scope and bipod.
The price does not include extras. The Howa barreled action comes with a trigger too. I would need a stock, but looking at Boyd's which is under 200. I have a Savage 110ba in 338 lapua mag which is basically a paper right now. Last shot locked the bolt, factory ammo. So looking for a Smith to check out the head space on it. So savages are not high on my list.
Locked bolt sounds horrible!!
any clue why? What ammo?
The bolt has always been tough to seat and close. I was shooting 300 grain S&B ammo. Someone told me for my length barrel 300 was not best choice so switched to Hornady 285, first one shot locked the bolt. My guess headspace is off, but need to find me a Smith in Illinois area to find actual issue.
Id call savage. If shooting factory ammo locked it up it sounds like its out of spec.
