.360 Dan Wesson

Anyone load for .360 Dan Wesson? Just wondering advantages/disadvantages compared to the .357 Magnum and .357 Maximum.

Lengthened .357 Magnum. Between the Magnum and Maximum. I hadnt heard of it until I got a 357 max contender barrel. Starline makes brass for it.

Wonder why they made it?
Just to gain a little over the 357 Mag?
If it were me, I'd stick with a common caliber like the 357mag where supplies are easy to get and there is plenty of load data, unless there is a real want or need to have an odd ball caliber

Dan Wesson made it for some of their revolvers. I think the brass is stronger than 357 mag brass, so you can load higher pressure rounds. And, not as long as the 357 maximum so you could make it in a little smaller revolver. I thought about trying it just because I like odd calibers

Just stuck getting new brass, but it isn't too horrible in price

Wonder why they made it?

"the Dan Wesson Firearms Company created a cartridge to give handgun silhouette shooters an edge in knocking down metal rams. The 357 Magnum was popular for this sport, but if the rams were not set properly, there was no power in the cartridge to spare and the rams would not fall down.
At the time, the 357 Maximum (aka 357 Super Magnum) was available. With a .31 inch difference in length, few revolvers were available in 357 Maximum. Also, the 357 Maximum was picky to reload for, preferred hot charges and was somewhat temperature sensitive."

The article went on to say the recoil is comparable to 357 Mag and you get about 150 fps over it as well.
