    Disposal of bad primers

What is the best recommended way to dispose of live but trashed primers?

We had a pipe freeze and break back in January, which flooded our house. My reloading equipment was kept high and dry thankfully, but we had serious humidity and freezing temperatures in our house for a week while everything tried to dry out. Lately I went through and tried using my SPP primers for my 9mm, and had 10 rounds in a row hit, but not fire. Since then, I have loaded multiple more rounds, and have had the same problem. Some of the primers are fine and go off with no problem, others hit but do not fire. So I'm just going to toss the rest of those primers and get a new box.

I don't want to bring them to a scrap yard, as they are still considered an "active explosive", but they are pretty much worthless for reloading at this point.

Anybody have any recommendations on how to dispose of these primers properly?

I'd just put them in the trash. Or throw them in a fire. They'd make some nice fireworks. Lol. I'm kidding about the last one.

Try a different gun. A heavier hammer strike may set them off.

If you opt to trash I would soak them in oil and toss ‘em in the trash. If I trash a primed case now I spray wd40 into the case, crush it, and toss it.

Well, as a precaution I called our local sherrifs department. After a few different phone calls between dispatch, a deputy, and Lord knows who else, I finally got an answer.

They told me I can package the primers up and bring them to the sherrifs department. They will put them in their evidence locker, and send them out with the next shipment to be destroyed safely.

Put them in empty shotgun shells, or even a rubber glove, and shoot them from about 100 yards out
Ask me how I know to do that

I just throw them in a bucket of water for a long while. Then when I remember I throw them away and start a new bucket.

Get glass water and drop em in. Or a soda bottle they should absorb the the water if police station wont take them, like old ammo
