    One vs the other.

I’m looking into reloading a different caliber this winter. Should I go with my .17 hornet, or the .223/5.56?

I feel like I would shoot more .223, but the .17 hornet is getting hard to come by at $32 for 25 rounds.

I would just do both. If it could only be one I would definitely choose the one that is harder to get ammo for.

I'm currently in Eastern Montana where the coyotes are thick and the shots can get long.

If I had to choose one, I guess it's be the hornet. 10 grains or so of powder per charge and the pills are cheaper, I think it's a more efficient cartridge. I kill coyotes with one rather frequently. Unless you're constantly fighting wind, that's what I'd go with.

I really like the .17 HH. It is cheap to reload and it performs well. The .223 is kind of like a Chevette during the 80s. They were everywhere. The HH not so much. I kind of like having stuff other people don't use. I guess I do shoot quite a few calibers some consider "obsolete". They still perform and with the new powders available more so than ever.

I'd reload the 17. 223 is so cheap now it's hard to justify reloading for plinking rounds. Or you just buy both dies at once. Reload for 224 and make killer varmint rounds.

I would definately reload for the 17 Hornet since they are more expensive and harder to find. JMHO

Awesome input guys! Thank you. Looks like I’ll be buying some dies for the hornet and the parts from Wes!
