    NV vs Thermal

For the occasional user of weapon mounted night sights, what is the general opinion of NV vs Thermal?

It depends on a lot of things. Price point. Distance you intend to shoot. Priority of identification...ect
For me I use a thermal to scan that way I don't have to use my rifle. The a night vision scope to clearly identify and shoot. Thermal will pick up heat from a very long distance but, is it a German Shepard or a yote? With NV you be able to tell yote from Fido. Or bill from bob if you need it for that.....

Not a bad idea you have.... NV on the weapon amd a hand held thermal.

Price is TBD. I want something of quality.

Distance would be around 100ish yards and closer. I would like to have higy enough quality and clarity to engage as far away as I can get a positive ID.

Check out Myron morrow with night vision outfitters. Even if you don't buy from him he's a wealth of knowledge

I feel like thermal is the way to go. If there is a lot of brush or tall grass, your target can get lost in it with night vision. A thermal can see right through it.

It depends on the optic. Some of the cheaper thermal(ATN) will be a white screen if you looking into brush. Some of that can be adjusted in the settings. There's lots of considerations when it comes to it. Hand warmer pack wrapped around your thermal if you're up north

The flir pts233 does not have that problem. If there is something warm in the brush it definitely stands out.
