Hodgdon's data with a 24" barrel using 12.0gr of TrailBoss gets 971fps, 13.0gr gets 1007fps.
A lot of people like that combination.
Don't dismiss Trail Boss either. That velocity with that bullet is formidable if you were on the receiving end.
I'm away from my data for a while but IMR3031 does well with a lot of velocities. I'm using it for 405gr cast powder coated in 45-70 and 458socom.
1485Top are Nosler 150gr Ballistic Tip Hunting #30150, bottom are Hornady 150gr round nose #3035. Retrieved from a dirt pile at 20 yards. Muzzle velocity 1480fps.
It almost appears the Nosler were...
With the round nose I don't think you will have any problems with a 16" barrel and less than 150 yards. The pointed bullets, probably something slightly over 200 yards.
1483Week before Thanksgiving. 125 pounds live weight. 7 1/2" 300aac with 150gr Hornady round nose, muzzle velocity 1480fps.
On our 125 pound deer I get pass throughs at 75 yards or less with 150gr Hornady round nose bullets using my 7 1/2" barrel.
Bullets retrieved from a dirt pile at 20 yards show perfect expansion....
With 150gr jacketed bullets 19.0gr of 1680 is averaging 1870fps in my 16" barrel, 1730fps in my 11 1/2" barrel and 1480fps in my 7 1/2" barrel.
In my 16" barrel 12.0gr of 2400 averages 1527fps,...
I'm powder coating Lee's c309-160-R, using 18.0gr of 2230 and averaging 1492fps in a 16" barrel and 1315fps in a 7 1/2" barrel.
My BHN11 alloy is dropping at 166gr, gas checked before coating and...
You wouldn't expect there would be much difference, especially with .223 loads.
I loaded some 55gr HP and 55gr flat base spitzers with the same powder/charge and got less than a 1" difference in...
Go to Buffalo Bore's site and look through their 45-70 stuff.
Look through their loads. It gives their opinion of the differing firearms related to the cartridges they suggest of varying velocities...
You done it right!
I've trimmed cases that left an burr so aggressive that when I deburred them it would eject a thin brass ring.
The neck (inside and out) needs to be smooth, continue deburring till it is.

Obviously I can’t comment on any grouping for accuracy this go around but at least I got some numbers.
Powdercoated Lee 457-405-F (416gr actual), BHN11, COAL 2.120”, CCI350 primers.
16”...
From Hodgdon but using an InterBond not FMJBT1292
From Lyman’s 50th Edition1291
1290
Hornady’s 9th (and probably 10th) Edition has data for 1680, 4227 and H110 with the FMJBT.
Hodgdon has data with CFE-BLK but with Hornady’s Interbond bullet, so the length is probably going to be...
Hornady lists 2.090” for their #3037 150gr FMJBT.
This is corrected from the 9th Edition that showed 2.220”.
I’m away from my data but I do remember the 150gr Remington PSPCL ended up at 2.220”. Being it was a flat base bullet, you can get away with it.
This was about the max length I was comfortable with...
19.0gr of 1680 is getting 1870fps in my 16” barrel with 150gr Remington PSPCL.
Not at the max either.
Just because you can don’t mean you should.
A .308 Winchester round will also chamber in a .410 barrel.
I’m pretty sure that firearms proof testing will not be able to readily handle most pistol...
Looks great and thanks for the report!
Damn, 2 different powders, 5 different rates, 10 x 5 shot groups in one session! I end up a nervous wreck just trying to chronograph and accuracy test one load...
I agree with Eddy.
For the sake of curiosity search this site and see if you find something close and then do the same looking through various reloading books for the nearest charge rate of the...
Quite a few magazine designs possible from that picture.
Thompson is one, if the magazine catch is slightly oval it would be for a Volunteer Arms (Thompson copy), others may also be for a grease gun.
