Picked this up cheap a while back.
its a older rem 700 adl that was shortened to 16 1/2” (kinda sad, but the thing is handy and quick)
i have managed to get it to shoot sierra 70gr hpbt br pills with IMR 3031 around an inch
i have a variety of pills and powders.
Anyone with any successful combinations I could try? Seems to be picky as hell.
I would bet the crown is messed up due to the shortening job.
May check that first.

Give me some powder choices please. That is where I was headed. Seems it wants to go fast or faster. Just trying to decide so I don’t have a damn muzzleloader smoker. Tried n135 but have only shot up to 75 sierra so far. Loaded some tests with H4895 in sierra 75, hornady 75 vmax (my 6mm loves this bullet) and speer 90. Don’t think it will handle the 100s well. The 85s are da bomb in my other 243s. Was hoping to get one of the others shooting since I have a shitload of them.

Wondering now how accurate it was BEFORE it was chopped.
Had several of the older Rem's and they all shot great. There is nothing about the 243Win chambering that automatically makes them inaccurate coming out a short bbl so you'll figure it out.

My tests with H4895 went very well in accuracy department. Best yet ... but I am not getting a full burn on the charge. Nothing outrageous ... but not a full burn. Little smoke on the shot.
H4895 works very good with Winchester primers and 85gr HPBT Sierra. Have you tried 100gr Speer or Sierra with Varget and CCI primers. These are the best I use in my 2 243's.
i shot some test 90gr speer in this last test. Holes were clean, but about 1 1/2 is all I could do in 3 different charges of sets of 3. I have 85s, but am tryimg to use up others I have for this rifle. I have a few 243s. I did all tests with CCI primers. I may try a magnum primer in hopes of eliminating the little bit of smoke on the shot. So far best groups have been with vmax 75gr. I have not tried varget yet. I do shoot 39gr varget and the 75 vmax in my 6mm .... and it does extremely well.Quote:
