Question 6.5 Creedmoor and Nosler RDF 140gr and Superformance

    First time poster,

I have been reloading pistol for several years. I am finally getting around to rifle cartridges and specifically 6.5 Creedmoor. I managed to find:
    • Hornady 129 gr Interlock SP bullets
    • Hornady Superformance Powder

I found load data for this combo that specified large rifle primers.

I also have several hundred Nosler RDF 140gr HPBT. I haven't found any data for this bullet combined with Superformance.

What I didn't expect (based on reloading pistol) is that my Hornady cases have large primer pockets and my Federal cases have small primer pockets.

If the recipe specifies large rifle primers, is there an issue using the same recipe with small rifle primers?
Has anyone got a starting point for the 140gr Noslers?

    Hey! Welcome aboard.

No problem using the small primers in place of the large primers with the load data. I would keep the loads separate though. Maybe use the small primer brass for one bullet and large primer brass for the other.

If you used the Hornady manual for the 129’s, you can go ahead and use their data with the 140gr RDF bullets. Just remember to work up.

    Thanks!

I have them all separated and was planning on working up the loads in distinct lots.
So you are saying use the Hornady manual and find the equivalent 140gr bullet for the load, even if it's not specifically the Nosler RDF? (Working up of course.)

Yes. They are similarly constructed bullets so the data will be a safe starting point.

    Great,

    I found this: https://www.hornady.com/assets/site/...-147-153gr.pdf
It lists the the Hornady 147gr and 153gr bullets.

    I appreciate the assistance!

    Thank you

There should be Hornady data for their 140gr - 143gr bullets

I pulled that from here: https://www.hornady.com/support/load-data/ I guess I'll need to buy the book!

I did find a bit on the Nosler site, but not for Superformance: https://load-data.nosler.com/load-data/65-creedmoor/

There is hornady’s load data with superformance, and nosler’s with their seating depth for the RDF bullet.
