I have never built one but have been doing some research and wanted to get others opinions. Goal will be turning an 80% into a full AR. Will be 223 or 277 wolverine (which i already have a barrel for).
What is your go to reference?

Not sure about a book, but AR15.com has a ton of info. Also lots of great YouTube videos.

I went to YouTube for my first build. After you get the basics and some hands on they’re really not bad to put together. I always have to go back and see one step or another but YouTube was my go-to
An armed society is a polite society
Honestly, youtube is probably your best bet. You can pause and rewind as needed, and get an actual view of what's going on. It's a very simple process though. Do you have the necessary tools? A bev block and an armorers wrench will come in very handy. I've built a few, and have a side charging 7.62x39 in the works now, with 5 more lowers to build out, if you have any questions, feel free to message me and I'll give you any info I can.
