    45 Colt

My favorite cowboy load for 45 Colt is 5.5gr of trail boss with 250 or 255gr cast bullets.

If any of you load light 45 Colt loads, what are your favorites?

9.5gr of 231 with a 230gr fmj. For hunting I like a 300gr soft tip with 23gr of H110. Its a beast with that load but it'll set a deer or hog on its ass quick. Especially out of my rifle.

I never thought about using 231. I may have to investigate that.

That should be a good one too. That load I suggested, is the very first load I ever put together 11+ years ago.

My blackhawk and marlin rifle love it and its cleaner burning than the unique I use to use. I've been using 231 for over 15 years now

9.5gr of 231 is about 2.0gr over max for old pistols and clones, so probably should only be used in smiths and rugers. I may try 7.3gr if 231, so it will be able to be shot in all of my 45 colts.

You're right. Mine are rugers so it'll handle a little more. I load out of the old Thompson contender section of my manual.

I made up some rounds last night with 8.0gr unique and 230gr Rainier HP.

I’m going to try them in my judge, snakeslayer and super Blackhawk.
