Several years ago I purchased some 5.56 63gr tracers from Wes, Finally getting around to loading and ran into a potential problem. The bullets are quite a bit longer than 63 or 65 gr bullets due to the interior holding the tracer compound. The 5.56mm tracer 63 gr projectile according to the Army technical information data sheet list WC844 powder at 24.7gr. According to what information I have been able to gather about WC844 is is similar to H335.. I have WC842 (SMP842) which is supposed to be the copper fouling substitute for WC844. I have loaded several with H355 and notice that as low as 23 gr compacts the H355 and they show flattened primers. Next will try some of the WC842. My question is has anyone reloaded some of these tracers, what powders and approximate loads have worked. One other thing is none of the tracers lit up. We shot at dark. Also wonder if the powder influences the ignition of the tracer. Thanks!!!
