    22 hornet

What’s everyone’s favorite bullet for prairie dog up to coyote, in their 22 hornet. Ive had great success with 40gr vmax and 40gr ballistic tip. When Barnes first introduced their varmint grenade I tried the 36gr and it was very accurate but the hornet couldn’t push it hard enough to perform, this was before they introduced the hornet specific bullet.

I have shot three different bullets in my Hornet. 40gr Sierra Blitzkings, 55gr Dogtown soft points, and the 45gr Hornady 218 Bee hollow points. They all shot good, but I did not try them on game. My next experiment is going to be with 55gr cast powder coated flat nose bullets.

Ive never thought about shooting cast bullets out of it. I was thinking of trying 40gr nosler tipped varmageddons.

34 grain Dogtown does rude things to armadillos.

I still need to work up a 40gr load for the zombies I bought from Wes. I have about 1000 to work up a PA Groundhog recipe. 300yds would be really sweet, but I would be really happy with something in the 100-175 yd range

Ive shot 40gr v max and ballistic tips out of my hornet for years, for prairie dogs. On a calm day 300 yds wasn’t out of the question. Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t make contact with every shot, but hit enough to keep it fun. Under 200 yds, my hornet would shine.

that's similar to what I'm getting with my sierra recipes... so Id expect a little more with the zombies... but who knows.

I think I'm only using about 7.2gr of powder..
