    458 american 2”

Does anyone in this group load 458 american? I would like some insight i can figure out load data for the common projectiles based upon 450 marlin data. Id like to shoot 500gr and need a reference point. Any insight will be helpful!

The only data I have for the .458 American 2”, is for up to 400gr bullets.

I’m not sure of the case capacity of the .458 2”, but I’m wondering if it was similar to 45-70? There is plenty of data for 500gr bullets in the strong action 45-70 loads. I’m not sure if this helps, but possibly a starting point.

What do yo have for 45-70 loads in 500gr my hodgdon data stops at 405. Case capacity wise 45-70 and 450 marlin is identical. So i can drop percentages and work up

This is out of the hornady 10th edition. Their test rifle was a Ruger #1. These loads are up to 50,000 c. u. p.

CAUTION: Do not use anything relative to the 45-70Gov't for the 450Marlin or the 458X2". The 45-70 is a much lower pressure chambering than the other two.
The 450Marlin and the 458X2" are about the same as far as pressures and velocities go. Remember, the 458X2" has been around waaaaaay longer than the 450Marlin.
Also consider the strength of the actions that you will be shooting these chamberings in. ---- SAWMAN

My 458 american will be in a savage 10/110. So pressure wise i’m not terribly concerned. Im more looking for a starting point. Go low and slow and work my way up. I will be loading mostly jacketed 300-350s and 500gr cast.
