    Berdan primers

A pox on you, Hiram Berdan! Just working through a bunch of tumbled 9mm brass from Wes and with about 30 pieces of brass to go, I ran into one of those beauties. Luckily, I was using a Lee U die and the depriming rod just pushed up out of the die as designed...no broken pin. First one of these I've ever run into, but I just recently started reloading 9mm...maybe I've just been lucky with the tens of thousands .223/5.56 I've processed.

In my 39 years now of reloading, I have only come across berdan primers in 9mm cases. In the past I have broken a pin or two and even bent a stem on those damn things.

The bane of ever reloaders existence.

I wonder if they are becoming more common due to the rise in import ammo. Berdan is pretty common in Europe and Russia

    Reloading...it’s like knitting for men.
