22-250 with 52gr hornady ELD Match

Any one else shoot 52gr ELD match out of their 22-250? My girlfriend did some research for Christmas and thought I would like them for my rifle (rem 788 with 1:14). Just wondering what other people thing and have found for ballistics and performance. I plan on using Varget but am open to other powder ideas and hope to take it out to 400 yards. Thanks all!

I have not shot hornady out that far, but that grain in that rifle is no issue.

I have used 50gr vmax and 50gr ballistic tip, out to 500yds. IMR4064 has always been a great powder for me.

I found the 50 grain z max with h380 powder is the sweet one for mine.

My favorite for older 22-250's with 1:14 twist was the SMK 52gr HPBT. They always shot good out of my NEF Handi Rifle or my Ruger #1V.
Have not tried them in my newer 12 twist gun. (T/C Encore Pro Hunter) --- SAWMAN

I have had 3 different 22-250's. (Yes this is a seriously hot load) All of them shot 36gr of IMR 3031 with a 53 to 55gr bullet. They were shot out to 600 yrds with extreme accuracy. They were chronoed at 4100fps. The load data is from a lyman 48th edition manual. Those were only used when I was going to shoot that far. I don't advise loading and shooting alot of them because its a compressed charge and its a max load. The effects on the brass are. The primers are completely flat with a little metal roll back at the firing pin. You'll get about 3 or 4 reloads out of the brass before the primer pocket is stretched out.

My 28" 1:12 bbl should be able to get about 4600fps from a 30gr.
P.O. Ackley got >5000fps out of a 220Swift shooting 20gr solid copper bullets. ---- SAWMAN
