    Casting?

Do we have any casters here?
This is a 38cal 140g SWC from a Lee mould. Cost me about $0.03 each to cast and lube them. Loaded over 3.5g Bullseye they are great shooters. Keeps my 38spl plinking cost down to about $5.00 box/50. Not much more than 22lr. Yes, a considerable amount of time is spent in casting, sizing, lubing, and loading, but what else was I going to do.

I want to learn and start casting. I purchased a melting pot a while back but work got crazy and I haven't picked up any other items to get started. What type lead did you use?

Mostly clip on wheel weights with some scrap range lead mixed in.

I cast and powdercoat 9mm. It's something I really enjoy doing. To me there is something pretty cool about taking a bucket of old wheel weights and ending up with bullets.

I only cast a few bullets. But now may be buying a Ruger PC 9mm carbine. I also cast with Zinc another whole new approach to casting. Not sure what size bullet to cast for the 9mm rifle. Or what powder to even use.

I use the Lee Tl356-124-Tc 6 cavity and titegroup powder for my 9mm pistol rounds and it works well. I don't know if there would be different concerns with the PC9 being a longer barrel. I think the PC9 might be the next gun I buy. Now that I am casting I could shoot it for about the same price as my 22s.

I cast for 9mm, .45ACP, 38 Special, .357 Mag, .44 Mag, .308, 30-30, and ,223. I have a Lyman Lubrisizer but I powder coat the 9 and 45. For the rest of the calibers, I lube the magnums and rifles with gas checks, and PC the plinking loads for them. There's just something traditional about lubing a .357 or a 30-30 that I can't shake. The lubrisizer also does a great job of installing gas checks.

And you are correct, it is nice to take 500 various rounds to the range at a cost of $20-$25 bucks.

We do have a casting discussion on the forum. There's several of people that do cast. Some new to it. Some trying new things. Check out some of the existing threads they may help. Anything you need to know just ask. The only stupid question is the one not asked. Its helped me alot.

I love casting, just got a new rcbs pot today. I've recently started using hi tek to coat them. Soon I'm going to try powder coating, cause it makes a beautiful body and protects the barrel. Here's some I cast and started coating last weekend.
