The book says for varget, 42.3 for the starting load at 2400fps, 46.2 gns max load for about 2600fps.

Varget is a little on the slow side for the M1 Garand do you have an adjustable gas plug?

Yes I do I remembered it was a mid range load but like a dummy I didn't write it down in 2 places
Varget is a great powder for a garand. Been using it for years. About the same burn rate as 4064. It is not too slow. Once you get to a powder like 4350 that is too slow. I run 46 gr of varget under a 168 gr Sierra or Nosler at 3.30” OAL with a CCI primer. Works in all my 30-06 garands. If I am loading 150 or 155 gr bullets I generally use H4895 or 4895 as it seems to work better with the lighter bullets. But once I get to 168 or 175 I only use Varget.
Huh, I stayed away from it because I was told it was too slow and risked bending an op rod.
Maybe I was misinformed.

? Yea, someone told you wrong. 4895, 4064, Varget, R15, BL-C(2) and the like are in the good range. 4350, R22, 4831 would be the questionably slow powders to avoid.
