    270 Winchester

Good morning everyone, here is a thread for those who reload & hunt with a 270 Winchester. I've been working on loads for a year or so and will post what I've been up to and grouping results. Must say I'm a fan of Nosler Partition bullets (they seem to work the best thus far), but would like to learn what is working for others.

So here was some early work with H4831sc at 54.7 grains. I was shooting off a Bull Bag and thought I had it nailed

Second round was to try and replicate earlier results. Same powder, vary charges by 0.2 grains. Shooting from a Lead Sled this time, but weather was much warmer and the gun didn’t want to cool very much.

So now I’m all confused, so I went after it one more time with the two powder charges that have best so far, 54.5 grains and 54.7 grains. Same powder selection, still shooting a 150 grain Nosler
Partition. Wishing I had a chronograph, but oh well.

What software or app are using to analyze your groups? Would you recommend it?

    Thanks,

    David

David, these were done with a free app called SubMOA. It works fine for figuring out groupings and pretty easy to use

    270 Winchester

4th and final iteration of reloading 270 Winchester with 150 grain Nosler Partition bullets. Same powder and cartridge length, seven rounds each at 54.5 grain and 54.7 grains. 54.7 grains is the best charge for this firearm (TC Venture) and this projectile. 6 shot group was 0.6", that opened up to 0.97" when the seventh round was low (shooter error).

Time to move on to other load combinations, as this one is dialed in as good as it is going to get.

    Chrono indicates 2795 FPS.

I’d say looks fine for now. You can always come back.

Next load for my .270 Winchester turned out to be a good old fashioned Hornady Interlock 130 grain. 59.8 grains of H4831SC pushes it at about 3075 FPS. Today’s group wasn’t the best, but the stringing tells me to slow down and work on my form.

Plenty of accuracy at 100 yd for white tails, just need more practice.
