Best way to take your rifle with you for out of state hunts?

I'm flying out in 2 weeks and I went to ship my rifle to myself C/O my father. Perfectly legal. I think Fedex would treat it better than TSA.

Fedex told me they won't ship it. Against policy. Need to go through an FFL.

    UPS said same thing.

USPS will ship it but it is the least reliable of any of them (from experience)

LFGS said for them to ship it the have to ship it to another GDP.

I called a place near where I'm going and they said for 30 bucks I can ship it to them and pick it up when I get there. But.....i don't know them.

Final option is pay the extra/oversized luggage fee for Alaskan Air and hope they don't use it to go sledding on.

    Any stories or suggestions?

a good rifle case, and take it on the plane with you as checked baggage.
Best way I have seen to travel with one in my opinion

Yep, good case is important. I once saw some baggage monkey drop my double rifle case about 6 feet while changing planes on a trip to hunt Upstate NY, case got banged up a bit but both rifles still held zero when I got to my destination. Case cost a couple of bills back about 30 years ago and has been worth every penny having been used on many trips.
