Looking for ergonomics and smooth operation. I currently have my 13 year old son do this on my single stage, but there's too much whining. I have Lee, Hornady, and RCBS shell holders.
Which do you use?

I use the frankford arsenal. It comes with all the shell holders, is adjustable for depth, and comes with the large and small anvil. It has enough leverage to make the job pretty effortless. I have primed thousands of cases with it, 10s of thousands probably and it still runs like a sewing machine. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...62384b106a.jpg

I bought the Frankford arsenal hand primer last year. Very glad I did. It uses the same shell holders that the lee hand primer uses, and comes with its own set. That would be the one I would recommend.

I like the RCBS Universal. You don't need shell holders and it handles a huge number of calibers.
I might have to look into that frankford arsenal one. I have the rcbs that came with my kit but I hate having to swap out the shell holders from it back onto the press. I have also had to come up with a custom solution to keep the cover tight on the primer tray so the primers don't flip. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...8f69fe1952.jpg

I have the Lee hand primer and I’m not impressed. I want to upgrade at some point but the problem I have is the operation. The angle and position it has your hand isn’t very comfy and it’s not a smooth squeeze with nice and tight primer pockets. The shell holders for it have a lot of slop and when run into a tight pocket there’s a chance you’ll deform the rim of your case. Just my experience with it but it beats doing it on the press
I have 3 Lees and a few others, but I have given up on them as I get older and my hands can’t keep up. I now use RCBS APS and I like it a lot. Although it is a little $$$.
I’ve tried a couple, but I like my lymen best.

lyman also, its my first one and loaded up 50 test 9mm last weekend(first reloads) priming them was simple easy and fast and not a issue one.
I like the older round tray Lee. I seem to get a better "feel" with it. A lot of people tell me that they are prone to failure but has not happened yet after many thousands of cases primed, although I have acquired spares just in case. I also have an RCBS bench mount and APS universal tool but the Lee is my go to.
I’ve had 3 lee hand primers, all broke. I used a Sinclair hand primer for a bunch of years, it is great but expensive ( and a pain to change shell holders on). Now I’m using the Frankford arsenal for everything, so far so good.

I have a RCBS benchtop primr....can't remember the name of it. Has the tubes, not the strips. I love it. Works great and can be very fast. :)
I have the RCBS, Lee and Frankford Arsenal hand primers. I love RCBS products (99% of my loading bench is RCBS), but it's my least favorite hand primer. It's just not smooth to operate. I have used the Lee hand primer and love it. It's smooth and quick to change out shell plates or switch between small and large primers. I purchased the Frankford Arsenal hand primer about a year ago because I wanted something I could set a depth on. It is my go to hand primer now. Very smooth, well built and a ton of leverage. It does seem to me the Frankford works better for someone with large hands, but not required. If your 13 year old son is going to be using it I would suggest the Lee or take the chance on the Frankford and let him grow in to it.
I love this thing. Thanks for the input. My son digs it too..

I switched from the lee to an RCBS that uses APS strips and i love it. The only time i mangle a primer is when I miss a crimped primer pocket. Even then I usually feel it before I mess anything up.
