That's really cool. I'm in Eastern Montana now, grew up in Western Montana. I've seen their tracks on the West side, but never seen a live one. I get the trapping license each year though, just in case.

Here's mine.
We have have had problems with them killing my neighbors baby goats and stalking our shop cat.
I got this guy last winter. My neighbor got two more. I here them howl down in the valley by the creek, but no signs or tracks up around the house. I’m sure they will be back. I have an ATX night scope now.

The best time for me to hunt coyotes is winter. My forest is too thick any other time of year. I have a few areas or trails I can see roughly 100-150 feet year round. Last year I had lots of tracks. This year none. I here them howling down the valley. The valley is thicker than usual this year. I’m not finding any game trails branching off my UTV trails. The animals are running the creek and my UTV trails.
Interesting to watch isn't it. Shots that close, a shotgun is probably good medicine. Those decoy calls are pretty awesome huh?

I was using my 300 blackout with Barnes Vortex Black tips. He quickly spun around once and dropped.
When I looked up he was bouncing around the flipper. I wasn’t sure he was going to stop jumping around for me to get a shot off before he tried to grab the tail and run.
The callers work good for drawing them in, but for me, the tail flipping draws them into clearings so I can get a shot.

Thanks! I work on a 12k acre cattle ranch in NE Oklahoma. Shooting coyotes is just part of the job. My 3yo daughter rides the feed truck with me in the winter and she's gotten pretty handy at spotting for me.

Great way to pass on the love of shooting, huh?! I work as a truck supervisor in Eastern Montana & have about 130 miles worth of round trip to get to work and back so I get to see the country a bit. Some of the local ranches have given me permission to shoot them and a couple others have asked that I kill as many as I can on their land. Shoot straight bud, we're the lucky ones!

That's my dedicated feed truck rifle. Ruger American compact in 22-250. It fits on the console, dash or anywhere else you need to stuff it. V-max or Z-max 40-60gn.

This one soaked up some lead. First shot at 170 yards was a touch to the left and broke the front should on a "facing me" shot. Second shot "while he was spinning" was a bit far back, but dumped him. When I got to around 30 yards, he jumped back up so I poked him with the 22 handgun and that was the end of him.
