What is the big advantage to the 30-30 AI? Is it that much better ballistically?

200 fps faster,,longer case life,,,and cool to look at.

My experience with the 280 Ackley, has been that it equals or beats the ballistics of the 7mm Rem Mag, with less powder, less recoil, and not having to mess with a belted case.

Okay have a question regarding 280AI. I know there are 2 versions. The "original" and the SAAMI. I've heard (from a family member) you can use saami dies for the original you just need to put a .015 feeler gauge between the shell holder and die when setting it up but you cant use original dies for the saami. I'm asking because I have an original, in fact we think it was actually made by PO Ackley. But the dies are missing. I would like to reload for it without sending off for a set of custom dies. Ive got a fat fifty of reloads to get me going. Mine is stamped 7mm-06 Ackley Improved. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...3ba4bde921.jpg

Just to give you a little carrot....125 Nosler BT in a Savage 340 chroned to 2847 fps safely.

For the 30-30AI shooters . . . try using 375Win brass. You can get about 250fps over the standard 30-30Win.

From what I've been reading about it lately, everything people before me posted, PLUS in a standard rifle, you usually get one more round in the magazine from the .280 AI compared to the fatter 7mm Mag.
