I've had just about every brand of scope you can name! Weaver, Nikon, Tasco, Bushnell, etc. To me it's about the clarity of the glass and the reticle (I'm a HUGE fan of MIL DOT scopes).
I have questions with coments:
How far will you be shooting? For example, In New Yuck State, the average deer is taken at 35 yards so a scope that's good out to 500 yards is not going to be a good investment but a good 2X6 30mm or 40 mm scope would be. However, if you're shooting at LONG ranges, a 2X18 (or 24) 40mm scope would be a good investment.
Is it for target shooting or hunting? Again, if you're hunting the average range that you'll be shooting game dictates the scope as does the size of the range where your matches ware held (and how far they shoot at those matches).
Member Holland had the best advice: go to a store where you can actually look through a scope. Field & Stream/Dicks, Gander Mountain, Bass Pro/Cabela's, local firearms shop. Price should not be a deciding factor but budget will be. I'd love to have a Leupold VX-6 scope (
