I use speer #1220 or #1222 and never had any issues.
For deer I like the 100gr Nosler partition with RL22. My favorite varmint bullet is the 87gr hornady vmax with h414.

95 or 100 grain Nosler Partition have done in many a whitetail for me, I have always loaded them over IMR 4350.
Thanks for the replies, keep them coming! [emoji16]

I had a lot of luck with Nosler 70gr and IMR 4064.... never used them for deer... just varmints
95 Nosler ballistic tips on top of H4350 is my go to. Have also had good luck on deer with 85 Barnes TSX.

Mounted my budget scope last night. Used a DNZ medium scope mount. Getting close. Thanks for the replies gentlemen!https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...25314406cb.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...3de8d24921.jpg

Getting close. Keep us posted on what bullets, powder, etc. you use, and results too.

I also use an axis for coyotes and deer occasionally. It came with 5 boxes of Winchester varmintX in 58 grain. The bullet performs great on yotes. But I cannot figure out who makes the bullet. For reloaded rounds nosler 80gr ballistic tip is my go to.

Ignore the one on the lower right, it was the virgin shot. The other 3 were without any boresighting. DNZ scope mounts are the real deal. I couldn't get my crosshairs to focus. I was shooting factory 100 gr Rem Core Lokts. Impressed with the accuracy so far.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...6d9a6c1ac8.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...b50120074a.jpg

Nice shooting!

Will only get better from there with some hand loads

95gr nosler bt, with 760. The medium heavy Axis likes 40.5gr and the winchester a full 2gr more.
My 243Win loves the Barnes 85gr TSX. Coming out of only 14 inches of bbl it still opens good on both deer and hogs.
Been wanting to give the 55 and 58gr bullets a try and will just as soon as some cooler WX comes.
This is my Magnum Reserch,Lone Eagle. ---- SAWMAN
My 240 wby loves the 85grain tsx Barnes. One shot kills on white tails coyote and ground hogs

I bought some Hornady 87gr soft points for varmints. Has anyone used these and what powders do you recommend? Also, can I use a regular CCI or WIN large rifle primer and not the Federal 210s like the book says? Thanks

Thanks, worked up some test loads today with IMR 4895 because that's what I have on hand. Used WinLR primers. Looks like around 30 grains is my best group. Btw, these were my first reload rounds I sent down range!https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...03ecef31c2.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...dea8bfb616.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...b4c34110cb.jpg

That 29gr load shows some promise too. If it wasn’t for that one flyer, looks like it would’ve been an inch group.

Yah, I will have to try the min 28.7 and work it up to around 30 grains. I'm trying to get a coyote, so I'm happy with sub 2 inch groups. I'm also not a racing gun guy either. A coyote won't know the difference between 300 fps when you hit him haha.

I’ve never heard a coyote complain about velocity.

If I were choosing a bullet (for use in rifles) for non big game critters it would be something >71grs. Hopefully I could get an accurate load out of the 55,58,or 60gr bullets. This, given I did not care about pelt damage.
I would want the speed for trajectory purposes, rotational velocity for terminal ballistics, and the thin jacket of a purposely designed varmint bullet.
My 14" pistol does not like the lighter bullets. It's favorite are the 85 and 95gr bullets . . . max fast. --- SAWMAN
SAWMAN, I wanted something close to my 100 gr deer hunting rounds. I may get some Hornady 58, 65, or 75gr Vmax to try out as well. Here in Pennsylvania, I will be shooting a max of 200 yards at most times.

Here is the data off a load I done while I was in this hitch. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...8b2f88f814.jpg

That's cool! Reduced recoil load?
Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
Yes. I have about 1000 rounds to make up for my kids to shoot so i was going for something with less recoil and still expand enough to get the job done at 200 yds.
Loaded up a few 100gr test rounds with some IMR 4064. Want to try them out and some 95gr SSTs for deer loads. Does anyone else use SSTs for deer?https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...776e5adadb.jpg

I have tried them in a few calibers but was not too impressed. Just my opinion

I use 58 grain Vmax for varmint and use either H414 or 4320 powder. Pretty fast loads.
Loaded them up for my brother once. Never again. Lots of meat damage. No trace of the bullet anywhere and it didn’t exit in his .243. Shot was under 100. After that experience I am done with thin jacketed bullets for large game. For the .243 we switched a few years ago to the 85gr tsx and been happy with results. My wife is using that load this year. Running them about max load with IMR 4064.

Thanks for your reply. I have yet to shoot a group with these.

I've shot one deer with them, my son-in-law one deer and my Dad 2 deer with them with one of my guns. I had a pretty good load but have moved on to a different caliber. I shot a .270 with it and lost the deer and my gun was shooting incredibly accurate. Still not sure what happened as I had a good look, good shot and it would shoot within 3/4" of center at 200yds. I've switched to Accubonds and Federal Trophy bullets. With the .243 I don't think any of the 4 deer got more than 20' after being shot.
Heck, the 120gr SST's will shed their jacket even at 6.8SPC vels. I went to a Barnes TSX for my bigger hog killin'.
The 85gr at 3100 slams 'em. ---- SAWMAN
