Got a little more range time this past weekend. I shot my 32 Winchester special, 30-40 Krag, 44 Magnum, and 357 Magnum.
The 32 Special and 30-40 shot really well with my test loads, the 44 Mag Redhawk performed decently, and the 357 no change, blah.

This past week I made up some test loads for my Savage99 284 Winchester with 139gr interlocks and RL19, and 145gr Grand Slams and Ramshot Hunter. My Remington760 35 Remington with 200gr Hornady RN and AA2230. I also loaded some hunting rounds for the kids’ rifles, 7x57 with 120gr Ballistic Tips and IMR4064, and 30-06 with 150gr Hornady BTSP and IMR4064.

So after waiting patiently for 2 years for this to be released and then available, I finally picked this 1894 up on Saturday. Now to scope or not to scope?? It is a classic look and I am thinking no scope, what do you all think? My very first lever gun, by the way.

If your eyes are still good enough for iron sights, I would suggest a nice set of skinner sights with an aperture rear. That would be very cool to me. If you do better with a scope, then a smallish scope like a straight tubed 1-4x20 or 1.5-5x20 would not look bad on it.
Whichever way you go, I am really excited for you, and hope you let us know how it shoots.

Yep, 44 Magnum. Ruger has done a pretty good job of maintaining the "classic" look of the lever guns they are introducing. I am going to at least wait until I get a chance to shoot it before I consider mounting a scope. Thanks for your thoughts, it is kind of how I am leaning.

Here is some pictures of my Marlin 1895 with two different scopes on it. One thing to note on these pictures is that the scopes are mounted about an inch farther back than they should be because of the slip on recoil pad over the factory recoil pad which lengthens the length of pull about an inch.Quote:

Now that doesn't look bad at all. That is just a sweet looking rifle! I think I like the Vortex look better. The scope I have to put on the 1894 is a Leupold 2-7x32, thinking it might look ok on there now. Thanks for posting these!

I’ve been a busy little beaver at the bench. Brass prep has included 35 Remington, 338 Federal, 250 Savage, 7.5x55, and 7x57.
I have loaded some 30-40 hunting rounds with Hornady 150gr RN and IMR4350, some 7x57 fireforming rounds, more 35 Remington test loads.
My to do list has 35 Remington hunting rounds with Hornady 200gr RN and IMR3031, 257 Roberts Ackley test loads with 120gr Hornady HP and RL19, 338-06 Ackley test loads with 200gr BST and BigGame, and 357 Magnum with 190gr Hunters Supply WFN and 2400.
I think that’s all for now.

5) 338-06 improved with 200gr Ballistic
SilverTips and BigGame; and 200gr
Speer HotCor and Staball 6.5
6) 257 Roberts with 117gr Hornady RN
And AA4350; and 117gr Sierra SPBT
and Staball 6.5
7) 257 Roberts improved with Hornady
120gr HP and RL19
8) RIA 1911 45ACP with Hornady 200gr
XTP and CFE Pistol and Longshot

One hundred each 45 Colts in 1x Armscore Precision brass . The fine NOE 454-250 SWC version of the Kieth 454424 Lyman from WW-pure at 50-50 . The lube is the left overs in the new to me lubeizer going into my own version of Darrs lube . Sized .454 late last fall cast in October. They weigh 252 gr . Looking good! 10.0gr should be perfect. I’ve always used .5gr more of herco than unique. So if your revolver likes 9.5 of unique, 10.0 of herco would be spot on.Quote:

I have a 45 ACP reamed 45 S&W with an ACP Reamer . It seems the 45 Win Mag is just the right length dies for the taper crimp and evev the steel sizer is an improvement on the Lee set of carbide . At a min , after I shoot some , I will use the RCBS expander die cause the Lee bushing expander sucks .

The 45 mag dies came up dirt cheap compared to the Colts dies I looked up yesterday........ $75 !?! I only gave 25 for the mag dies .
As a plus I can hop the S&W up to +P+ like 18 kpsi and be well into standard Colts loads and nowhere near the working limits of the 1918 N frame .
Added cool factor for having a 45 S&W S&W that will run 5 cartridges with data and even the hot one is safe in the no heat treat do to jump and throat length dropping pressures .

I shot all of that up in like May the 358 is really docile in that 8.5# Mauser pattern rifle .
125 gr 2" groups at 2600 fps in the 25-06' .
I can't remember the last time I saw so many get laid here ads .
The 257 makes a fine transition rifle plenty capable here in 30-30 rules land .
The 275 is a wreck , the 178gr 7mm-168 isn't going to work there .
The 1100 fps 530 gr 45-70 works well for typical woods work here although I'm yet to make a kill .
Loaded 30 7×57 , 6 loads of 5ea in 4350 . 20 with the 7mm-168 RCBS and 2 loads with 287-154 NOE Hunter .
50 each of the proven 35-250 RCBS in the 358 Win .
Transfer to small sheets from the large backers .
