I've sat through 2 "professional" safety indoctrinations at indoor ranges and neither covered this issue.

Squib 100%. If you pull the trigger don’t feel a bang work the action find a case without a bullet, something went seriously wrong.

That’s why if you ever have to manually rack a round like that you should check your barrel for any obstruction. In my experience a squib will not cycle the action of any un modified gun.
