I have a 270 Winchester. It is a newer gun, but still older, if that makes sense. (2000's or so?)
I can run factory loads through it, and I can get about 50 rounds before my barrel starts to heat up. With my reloads, I can get about 10-20 before my barrel is beyond too hot to touch.
Question is, will running too low of a charge, heat my barrel up quicker? My previous powder hopper would only allow me to run 43.5 grains, which is light for ANY grain.

That is odd for sure. Barrel should be hotter than hell in 10-15 rounds no matter what. Heat and pressure are heat and pressure.
I can't touch my barrels in 3 rounds normally
Is it possible it’s a faster burning powder in your HandLoads vs factory ?

It's very possible. I have no idea what they load in factory rounds. I just want to know if I'm causing it by the low powder charge, or if I should look for a better powder in general.Quote:

Shouldn't be any issue. Don't worry about barrel temps.
Find what loads and shoots good and stick with it :)
50,000+ PSI tends to make stuff warm :)
